There was a time when Philip and I thought we would retire to the Adirondacks and become mountain folk. But, one year while camping, I developed a UTI and found that I had to travel several hours to get treatment from a Physicians' Assistant. He prescribed antibiotics and cranberry juice. We knew we would one day get older and may need more urgent help; so we opted for the mountains in the south. On a less serious note, do you know how hard it is to find a good prosciutto in the Adirondacks?
2008 Lake Harris, Newcomb, NY
2010 Harriman Lake
Harriman Lake is still too far south in New York to be considered in the Catskills. It was only a hour and a half from our house on Long Island (depending on traffic) so we took advantage when we could. Philip hiked many of the trails and we canoed and fished on the lake. It's a gem of a place so close to New York City, but far enough away to be tranquil. If you just didn't have to drive through the city to get there!
