Rothville
Yellow Creek Township
Chariton County
 Missouri
USA

This is where it all began - for me, anyway! Rothville, Missouri. The town is actually on most maps and described in Wikipedia  Growing up it was a safe, friendly very small town. We had a Baptist and a Methodist church, our own school, post office, Grange Hall, and bank. And there was Philip's Service Station and Standley's Store. Everyone knew everyone! I once said to some out-of-town people I worked with, "The town was so small I either dated all the young guys or was related to them, and in some cases both!" Well - that was an exaggeration, but it made my point. It was a great place in which to have grown up and somehow it enabled me to adapt, fit in, and grow no matter where I later lived.  Here are some pictures of life in Rothville. The photo above is of a road now called Ingalls Road; but growing up, we called it Carpenter's, or Garr's, or Buck's Road - depending on who you were talking to. The farm on the left is Clara Lou Garr Bowlin's farm.

Enjoy!

Rothville Elementary School

Rothville Elementary School, Retirement Party of Ms. Watkins. My research found a Chariton Courier clipping from August 10, 1910  that list Ms. Jessie Watkins as a teacher in Brunswick, Missouri. I remember my first father-in-law James Elliott telling me his teacher was also Ms. Watkins.  chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn88068010/1910-08-26/ed-1/seq-1/
